Call for Nominations: 2008 APPAM Leadership Election

APPAM is seeking nominations for the open leadership positions at the association. Please take the time to think about whether you or someone you know would like to become more involved in APPAM by becoming an officer or member of the Policy Council.

Nominations are sought for the following positions in APPAM's leadership:

  • President-elect (one year term to be the primary organizer of the 2009 Fall Research Conference, followed by one year as president and one year as immediate past president)
  • Vice President (two year term; in the second year will chair the Committee on the Fall Research Conference that seeks to ensure the long-term success of the meetings)
  • Treasurer (two year term; responsible for supervising APPAM's finances and the work of the APPAM office in managing income, expenses and investments)
  • Seven (7) positions on the APPAM Policy Council (term: 2009 - 2012; will contribute to the decisions and programs of the APPAM board of directors).
Nominations should be submitted to Barbara Devaney, Chair, APPAM Nominating committee, c/o the APPAM office. APPAM strongly prefers electronic submission of nominations via email at nominations2008@appam.org. All nominations will be given the fullest consideration. Please note the following details:
  • The deadline for nominations is July 25, 2008. This deadline is to allow the Nominating Committee to complete its work by the end of September. APPAM plans to announce the ballot at least one month prior to the Annual Membership Meeting scheduled for November 7 in Los Angeles, CA. According to the APPAM bylaws, members have the right to nominate additional persons to the ballot if 25 members support that action. The July deadline for nominations will allow members to exercise that right at the Annual Membership Meeting.
  • Self-nominations for the positions of president-elect, vice president, treasurer, or Policy Council member must be accompanied by a c.v./resume. Self-nominations are encouraged.
  • Nominations of persons other than yourself should be accompanied by contact information for the nominee including telephone number(s) and an email address. If possible, please include a c.v./resume and/or a link to the nominee's personal web page.
Brief descriptions of the open positions, and their method of selection, may be found on the APPAM web site by clicking here. The APPAM bylaws offer additional details about procedures by clicking here. Any questions about these positions and their duties may be directed to Erik Devereux at the APPAM office in Washington, DC. Please note that APPAM does not compensate officers or Policy Council members, or reimburse for travel expenses to attend leadership meetings.

In addition to Barbara Devaney (Mathematica Policy Research, Inc.), the 2008 Nominating Committee includes Rebecca Blank (The Brookings Institution and University of Michigan), Beth Walter Honadle (University of Cincinnati), David Reingold (Indiana University), Peter Reuter (University of Maryland-College Park), and James Wyckoff (University of Virginia).
