JPAM Featured Article: "The Effect of the Child Support Performance and Incentive Act of 1998 on Rewarded and Unrewarded Performance Goals"

As part of our ongoing effort to promote JPAM authors to the APPAM membership and the public policy world at large, we are asking JPAM authors to answer a few questions to promote their research article on the APPAM website.

An APPAM Membership Update

June 10, 2014 12:00 PM

It’s a well-known fact that the membership is the lifeblood of any association, and here at APPAM we want to make sure that every year, our members are receiving the maximum return on investment. We want you to know that we are listening to your suggestions from recent conferences and surveys. With your feedback, we’re making a few additions to your member benefits beginning this summer.

Targeted Communications

APPAM includes a wide variety of policy focus areas. We want to keep you abreast of issues in all areas, but we also want to make sure we’re delivering news that is still relevant to you. To do this, we’re adding a demographics section to your member profile where you can select the policy area that is most relevant to you and your work. The area choices coincide with the focus areas of our annual Fall Research Conference. As the conference approaches, we’ll be letting you know about the specific sessions that apply to your policy area. Additionally, we’ll be customizing your semi-monthly APPAM Update email to include news, forums, and information on your chosen focus area.

We recently sent out information on how to update your profile, so please be sure to take a moment to complete it so you’re receiving the information you want.

Student Engagement

Our student membership has grown by nearly 150% over the past year. We want our students ready to hit the ground running after graduation. We’re in the process of planning a Student Meet Up event for policy students in the Washington, DC area as they begin their Fall 2014 terms. The event will have a strong focus on student networking, job searches, and other important tips students should know before they graduate. While we’re starting this meet up locally in DC, we hope to expand the event in the future to include more regions.

New Member Onboarding

Joining a new organization can be tough; we want to make joining APPAM an easy experience. Beginning this summer, all new members will undergo a new onboarding process. This includes four emails over the course of four months. Each will outline a key benefit of APPAM membership. The email topics include: Member Overview & Introduction, Conference & Networking, JPAM, and Getting Engaged. This process will ensure that all members are aware of their benefits so you can better take advantage of them immediately upon joining.

If you have any questions about APPAM membership benefits or you just want to let us know how much you love being a part of the Association, please don’t hesitate to contact me at or by phone at 202-496-0130, ext. 207.

We’re looking forward to the coming months and hope you’ll enjoy the additions we’ve made to your membership benefits!
