APPAM and NASPAA Need Member Help Improving Assessment Data

September 5, 2012 10:43 AM

When prospective students consider where to attend graduate school to study public policy/affairs, and when individuals in academia consider career opportunities, they often look at school rankings generated by the U.S. News & World Report. Many of us realize that there are important limitations to those rankings, in terms of what they tell us about the quality and distinctive features of our programs. But in the absence of better data, where should people turn?

APPAM and NASPAA are trying to improve the quality of data that we and others have available for assessing and comparing our programs. This can only be accomplished, however, if schools of public policy/affairs contribute to the data collection effort. As you have recently heard from Sandy Archibald, APPAM President, we need your participation in the survey that is currently being undertaken to collect data from the 2011-2012 school year.

Please access The Public Affairs Education Data Center and note that the deadline for participation is September 15th!

We hope that with sufficient participation, we will be reporting preliminary findings of the data collection to you at the NASPAA and APPAM conferences this fall. Thanks in advance for helping us to make this a worthwhile effort!
