APPAM Membership Votes In Changes to Policy Council
June 27, 2013 02:00 PM
The APPAM membership has voted to approve a change in the bylaws to reduce the size of the Policy Council and change its composition. The bylaws change was approved by a margin of six to one. This means that in December, the membership will elect three people, instead of seven, to the Policy Council for four-year terms. The composition of those three positions will be two academics and one practitioner. (As has been the case in the past, the institutional representatives will also elect a Policy Council member at their meeting in November.) The change in by-laws also included the creation of two student seats on the Policy Council. Each student will serve a two-year, staggered term and will be appointed later this year by a committee co-chaired by APPAM President Paul Decker and Chair of Institutional Representatives Michael Shires.
“We’re pleased the membership overwhelmingly approved these governance changes for APPAM,” said Decker. “The changes will help increase the engagement of Policy Council members and create a cohesive, active working group that can effectively govern APPAM in the future. We’re especially pleased about the addition of student voices to the Policy Council. APPAM has almost 700 student members and having representation dedicated to addressing their needs will help develop future leaders of APPAM.”
If you would like to be considered for service on the Policy Council or for one of the officer positions, or know someone APPAM should consider for a position, please contact Tara Sheehan, APPAM Executive Director. A more formal solicitation for nominees will be sent in the coming weeks.
