APPAM held a very special, multi-day conference on the publicy policy and management curriculum in honor of 20th anniversary of the influential 1986 Spring Conference. Significant funding for the conference was provided by generous sponsorships from APPAM's institutional members. This page offers information on the conference schedule and program, briefing papers for sessions, sponsors, and the plannng committee. Schedule in Brief: Thursday, June 15, 2006: The conference began at 9:00 a.m. with welcoming remarks by APPAM President David Weimer (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and an opening plenary address by John Ellwood (University of California-Berkeley) followed by a working luncheon on "Demand for MPPs in the Public Service Workforce". There were three concurrent sessions in the afternoon on "Pedagogy for Professional Education," "Law, Ethics and Craft Skills," and "Process, Politics and Management in the Curriculum," followed by a daily debriefing before conference participants went to dinner on their own in Park City. Friday, June 16, 2006: There were two concurrent sessions in the morning on "How to Move Students to Mastery" and "The Bookends: The Policy Ph.D. and Bachelor's Degrees," followed by a working luncheon on "Diversity in the Policy Enterprise". Three concurrent sessions in the afternoon discussed, "Practitioners in the Degree Program," "MPP Programs Emerging Around the World," and "Managing the Policy School Enterprise." After the daily debriefing participants enjoyed a very special dinner at the Red Pine Lodge on the top of the mountain. Saturday, June 17, 2006: There were two concurrent sessions in the morning on "Quantitative Methods, Economics, and OR Models," and "Conflict Resolution, Alternative Dispute Techniques, and Modes of Consensus Building" followed by a final debriefing. The conference concluded with a final debriefing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Return to Top Briefing Papers for sessions As part of preparations for the conference, the Planning Committee prepared briefing papers and other materials for the sessions. Return to Top Conference Sponsors Sponsors of the 2006 Spring Conference - Updated February 16, 2006 The following APPAM-member institutions each generously provided $1,000 in sponsorship to support the Spring Conference. Persons employed at these institutions qualified for a 25% discount on registration for the conference and the institutions qualified for a discount on advertising in the program books for the 2006 Fall Research Conference in Madison, Wisconsin.
