From the Director's Chair: The 2013 Fall Research Conference
March 14, 2013 09:00 AM
We’re only a few weeks from the deadline for submissions for the 2013 Fall Research Conference. As you’ve probably read by now, we’ve made some changes to this year’s submission process, adjusted the number of policy areas for submission, created new cross-cutting policy areas, and improved a few of the requirements for this year. Angela Evans, APPAM’s President-elect, has jumped into the conference planning process with both feet, planning a dynamic and engaging conference for attendees. We’re excited!
In addition to the changes in the submission process, we will also be holding a pre-conference workshop on Wednesday, November 6 aimed at Ph.D. students. The workshop will help students with transitional issues once they graduate, such as how to find a job, how to get published, identifying a mentor, and more. We’re currently looking for institutional members to help in the planning process. If you’re interested in participating, please contact me directly.
The Fall Research Conference will once again take place at the Washington Marriott and Westin Georgetown Hotels. We’ve added a third hotel, the Ritz Carlton, to accommodate more sessions. All hotels are within walking distance of one another and on the edge of the Georgetown neighborhood within Washington, D.C. We’ll send out notices when the hotel room blocks open so you can reserve your room.
To make navigating this year’s conference as easy as possible with all the information you need right at your fingertips, APPAM will be debuting a conference app that you’ll be able to download ahead of the conference. The app, which will work across mobile device platforms and on the web, will allow you to create your own schedule, search through sessions and participants, view a schedule at a glance, and send messages to other app users. We’ll be sharing more about the app after details are finalized with its design and functionality.
Finally, if you’re looking to secure an ad in the conference program, on the preliminary program website, reserve an exhibit table, or become a sponsor of the Fall Research Conference, watch APPAM.org in the coming weeks. All the sales information will be made available on the site and you can secure the opportunity that best suits you and your organization.
As always, if you have any questions about anything APPAM related, please contact me. I would love to hear from you.
Make sure to submit your proposal for the 2013 Fall Research Conference by April 5, 2013. That’s only 23 days away!
Thanks for reading.
