APPAM Membership is more than attending a conference.
 

It's a highly-experienced network of academics, researchers, practitioners, and students. It's being on the cutting edge of policy analysis and management topics that affect everyone engaged with research. It's a community dedicated to improving public policy and management by fostering excellence in the field. APPAM Institutional Memberships are available to schools, foundations, government agencies, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and research organizations that contribute to the advancement of the public policy field.

 

Membership Perks Included

All Institutional Members receive one complimentary Professional Membership.
Academic institutions receive 20 free Student Memberships annually.
Non-academic institutions receive five free Professional Memberships for staff.

 

 

What is Institutional Membership? 

APPAM membership ensures that you and your students or colleagues are on the cutting edge of policy analysis and management issues that affect all policy scholars.

APPAM is dedicated to improving public policy and management by fostering excellence in research, analysis, and education. Founded in 1979, APPAM hosts annual research conferences, publishes a top academic journal, presents several achievement awards, administers fellowships for underrepresented students and new professionals, and creates networks of scholars, students, and institutions to foster engagement and the exchange of information.

Institutional Member Benefits

Institutional membership with APPAM provides opportunities for professional development, education, resources, a sense of community, and more. Institutional members have access to APPAM's top tier offerings and several complimentary discounts. Additionally, institutional members are offered exclusive benefits at our Annual Fall Research Conference. See below for more details on benefits. 

Professional Development

Awards: APPAM offers prestigious awards that recognize excellence in policy research of multiple areas including those only available for Institutional Members including the PhD Dissertation Award and the three Equity & Inclusion Fellowship cohorts.

APPAM Career Connections: The recently-updated APPAM Career Connections boasts a clean look with updated features for the best experience for job seekers and employers alike. Career Connections hosts only relevant resumes and job postings, making the process less saturated and easier to find both jobs and employees. Institutional Members are able to post jobs at no cost by using our special member discount code. 

Institutional Member Forums: Exclusive to Institutional Members, APPAM offers members the opportunity to host an Institutional Member Forum. APPAM and the Institutional Member work together to co-host an event around a relevant policy topic at the institution free of charge to attendees. 

Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (JPAM): Institutional Members receive a complimentary subscription to JPAM. This includes digital access to JPAM Online with additional search and advanced article release features.

Webinars: All members have access to our library of professional development podcasts and webinars. Topics include tips for presenting at academic conferences, interview prep, faculty position negotiation, and deep-dives on policy hot topics. Institutional Members are eligible to co-sponsor these resources and present on recent research. 

APPAM Newsletters: All Institutional Members receive dedicated monthly newsletters from APPAM's Executive Director.

Community of Peers

APPAM Communities: Propose a new APPAM Community group or serve as a chair for an existing Community. These groups meet virtually and in-person based on an element or idea such as religion, research type, geography and more. These Communities provide invaluable opportunity for connection and we encourage leadership within Institutional Members. 

 E-Lists: APPAM strives to provide our members with access to a broad collection of tools, content, practical resources, and a smart and vibrant community of peers via the E-List Member Forum Communities. These groups serve as a platform to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in ongoing conversations.

Membership Directory: This members-only institutional and individual member database allows you to search for colleagues based on location, research topic, and member type. Did you meet someone at the last conference you attended? Many members build future research collaborations by connecting via the directory.

Voting and Nominations: Institutional members elect one person to the Policy Council each year.

Membership Dues & How to Join

APPAM defines an institutional member to be an entire organization, or any specific unit within an organization that might pay the annual institutional dues. Multiple units within an organization may join as institutional members so that they are listed individually in the Membership Directory, have their own representative, and own membership benefits.

Please note that institutional membership does not include individual membership benefits for all persons employed at an APPAM institutional member. To enjoy individual membership benefits, the institution must set up the complimentary memberships, or an individual can join as a professional member.
