O*NET Project Seeks APPAM Member Assistance

December 5, 2013 09:19 AM

The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) is requesting assistance from active APPAM members. O*NET is collecting current and essential information about Management Analysts. The program, sponsored by the United States Department of Labor, is gathering occupational information for a national database to be used by employers, workers, educators, and students across the country. The database will provide information about the skills, abilities, activities, and work context for more than 900 occupations nationwide.

O*NET researchers need input from occupational experts to maintain accurate information about your work for the benefit of the American people. Currently, the program is researching the occupational classification of Management Analysts, defined as individuals who conduct organizational studies and evaluations, design systems and procedures, conduct work simplifications and measurement studies, and prepare operations and procedures manuals to assist management in operating more efficiently and effectively. This description includes program analysts and management consultants. Note that a member’s job title does not need to match, just their job description.

APPAM encourages those members to participate in the O*NET project. Members are eligible if they meet the following occupational expert criteria:

  • At least one year practicing in the classification as described above
  • At least 5 years’ experience with the occupation—practicing, supervising, training and/or teaching (can be combined experience)
  • Currently active in/with the occupation (practicing, supervising, training or teaching)

If you believe you fit the criteria, please forward your name and contact information to the O*NET researchers at Research Triangle Institute, via Traci Davis (email: tdavis@onet.rti.org or phone: 877-233-7348, ext. 109). RTI International will invite a random sample of those responding to provide input via questionnaires to keep information about these classifications accurate and up-to-date, such as providing feedback on tasks, knowledge areas, work context factors, and activities. A Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Department of Labor and $40 in cash will be included with the questionnaires as a token of thanks.

Interested members should respond by Friday, December 20, 2013.

We hope you will consider assisting with this important research as it will be of great benefit to members of the Association as well as to the millions of students, job seekers and employers who use the free O*NET Database each year as a resource for career exploration and job analysis.

If you have any questions, please contact Traci Davis at RTI International, 877-233-7348, ext. 109.
