Engage with fellow students and professionals at this year's
Fall Research Conference.
Policy Students Invited to 2014 Professional Development Workshop
August 20, 2014 10:00 AM
APPAM is once again holding a Professional Development Workshop before the start of the 2014 Fall Research Conference. The Career Search: Behind the Scenes will feature panel sessions that brings faculty and policymakers together to discuss three major career avenues of importance to students: the career search, tenured faculty and the fellowships, and the non-academic pathway. The workshop is aimed at supporting students in all stages of their education, from undergraduate through postdoctoral.
"I really recommend this year's pre-conference workshop to anyone who just recently graduated, is searching the job market this year, or plans to enter the job market next year," says APPAM Policy Council Student Representative Sarah Cordes. "The information last year about publishing, funding applications, and job searching is something that proved very helpful to me as I was applying for fellowships. I'm still finding it influential as I enter the job market this year."
This year's workshop will take place on Wednesday, November 5, from noon to 4 pm. Registration for this event is separate from the Fall Research Conference; the fee is $40 and includes three valuable sessions and a boxed lunch. Students are also encouraged to stay for the conference, taking place November 6 - 8.
"I really encourage students to attend this year," says Cordes. "The workshop is a wealth of information and provides a great opportunity to network, both with senior scholars who can give you great advice, and with other graduate students who will be your future colleagues and peers."
Students will also find a wealth of great events during the Fall Research Conference, including awards lectures, symposia, topical caucuses, receptions, and a student-only mixer. Peruse the preliminary program to see what sessions and events you'll want to attend and make sure you register early.
