The Wonk Podcast: Intro & Episode 1

As young people flock to cities, more and more notice the burden of high rent. Why is rent so high, and how do we know when it's a problem? Spence breaks down rental markets with urban economist Dr. Sam Staley: how do we measure changes in the housing market, how do we decide between good and bad development, and who are the YIMBY unicorns?

Presenting a Paper or Poster, Chairing or Discussing at #2015APPAM?

Are you presenting a paper on a panel, acting as a chair or discussant, taking part in a roundtable or presenting a poster?  Here's some last minute information that will help you get ready!

  • Each session room at the Hyatt Regency Miami has an LCD projector and a screen.  Only larger rooms have microphones.  No rooms have audio nor are laptops provided.  Someone from your session needs to bring a laptop.  Complimentary wi-fi is available in the meeting rooms but you should not rely on it for your presentation; please bring it on a flashdrive.
  • There will be AV techs in the rooms but there is not a dedicated tech for each room so get to your session a few minutes early to set up, in case you encounter issues and need to find help.
  • Not quite sure how to structure your presentation, prepare remarks as a discussant or what size your poster should be? Here are guidelines for you, for all conference roles.
  • Do you need a slide advancer for a presentation? There are a limited number of clickers available, if you need one, please let Tristanne Staudt know.
  • Do you have handouts as part of your presentation?  Fantastic.  Send them to, along with your session name and we'll upload them to the conference app so attendees can access them when they go to your session.
  • Have you not heard from the chair for your session, have you note received papers from presenters or otherwise need to get in contact with the people on your panel?  You should have received a few messages about how to access contact info for people in your session but if you need that information again, please reach out to Tristanne Staudt.
  • If you are presenting a poster, check in at the Exhibit Hall about 30 minutes before your Poster Session is set to begin.  You should have received your poster board assignment already but you can also get it onsite in the Exhibit Hall.
  • Finally, we want to hear about your session on social media! Post on APPAM's Facebook page or post on Twitter with the conference hashtag (#2015APPAM).  Visit the Fall Conference site for full coverage of #2015APPAM.
  • Have questions?  Tristanne should be able to help you, or 202.496.0130, ext. 27.

See you in Miami!
