APPAM Regional Student Conference - CA




The California Regional Student Conference will be held on March 9th – 10th, 2018, at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA. During this conference, students will present research across a wide variety of policy areas, through poster sessions and on conference panels with their peers.

Participating students will gain valuable research presentation experience, as well as receive important feedback from academics, practitioners, and other students. Students will have several opportunities to network and make connections with a diverse group of policy professionals, as well as other policy students.

During these conferences participating students will present their research on panels of peers and through poster sessions across a wide variety of policy areas. Student presenters will gain valuable research presentation experience, as well as receive important feedback from academics, practitioners, and other students.

Submissions are closed. If you submitted an abstract,
you will be notified of your submission status in early February.

APPAM will solicit abstracts for (1) individual papers or projects to be integrated into panels, (2) panels made up of 3 – 4 papers/projects, and (3) posters.

Abstracts for individual papers/projects and posters should be no longer than 500 words; if a panel of papers/projects is proposed, there should be a summary of each paper/project plus an overarching description of the panel and its importance. Single papers, if accepted, will be assembled into panels by the Program Committee. Fully formed panels are 3 – 4 papers, each with a presenting author, all with a common theme.

Who Should Submit

Masters and PhD level students who are seeking an opportunity to present their research in front of policy professionals and their peers are encouraged to submit their research.

How to Submit Your Proposal 

You will need to submit the following:

  • Abstract (500 word maximum)
  • Summary (if submitting a fully formed panel)
  • Contact information for all authors/presenters 

The APPAM abstract system will ask questions and collect contact information for all authors, organizers, and other participants. You will also need to provide a title and 500 word (or less) description of the proposal. You will receive an email confirmation once your proposal has been submitted. Users will be given a unique ID and password for each proposal so they can easily make changes to existing proposals until the submission deadline. 

***Please note there will be two separate submission processes for the DC and California Regional Student Conferences. If you would like to apply to both conferences, you will need to submit your proposal through each conference submission system.

Panel Submission

*There are two separate submission processes for the DC and CA Regional Student Conferences. Before you submit, please make sure you are submitting to the correct conference.

*While students may apply to both conferences, students are limited to presenting at only one conference.

*By submitting a proposal, authors are expected to present their work should it be accepted and placed on the program. Papers/Projects and posters do not need to be complete in order to be presented at the conference.

Registration for the 2018 California Regional Student Conference will open in February The registration rate for all attendees, including student presenters, is $25.00. This fee includes breakfast and lunch each day and a networking reception.
