Accessing JPAM On-Line

The entirety of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (JPAM) now is available online through two sources that allow users to search back issues of the journal and access the original texts of articles.

Online Access to JPAM
  • Wiley InterScience. Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. offers the complete run of JPAM through its InterScience online service. Anyone may access basic information about the journal including article abstracts for free, and also arrange to purchase access to articles on a one-time basis. APPAM members in good standing have free electronic access to the full contents of the journal. APPAM sends members information about how to register at the time that they join or renew their memberships. Registration requires having an active APPAM membership number and a special registration key. If you are a member and have lost this information, please contact the APPAM office. Once registered, a member can download and print pdf versions of all articles published in an issue. Members should not post pdf files downloaded in this manner on other websites (please contact the APPAM office if you wish to do this). Research libraries with JPAM subscriptions also may offer full electronic access to the journal.

    • If you are an APPAM member, login to JPAM on Wiley InterScience by clicking here.

    • If you are not a member, please access JPAM on Wiley InterScience by clicking here or perhaps by connecting to JPAM through a participating research library.

    • If you are not a member, you also may want to register with Wiley InterScience by clicking here and setting up a login account. This will allow you to access the search features described below.

  • J-STOR. The J-STOR electronic journal archive now include JPAM under its Arts & Sciences IV collection. At this time APPAM does not provide access to J-STOR to its members. Many members have access to the archive through their local research library. If your library currently does not subscribe to the Arts & Sciences IV collection, please request a subscription. Included in the collection are many other noteworthy journals in the public policy/public administration field and the social sciences. JPAM in J-STOR does not include the immediate past five years of the journal. Those more recent issues only are available online through Wiley InterScience.
Searching JPAM on Wiley InterScience

Wiley InterScience offers all APPAM members and other persons with login accounts on InterScience powerful search tools for finding JPAM articles. These tools also allow users to set-up email alerts when new articles are published, and RSS feeds to automatically receive information about new articles. Here are some step-by-step instructions for searching JPAM online and converting searches into email alerts.

    Search box for JPAM online
  1. Login to JPAM online at Wiley InterScience. By setting up an account and loging into JPAM online, you automatically link all searches to your email address. There is no other way to direct an alert to an email account. When APPAM members complete the login process, they will be connected to JPAM as their one title on Wiley InterScience. There will be a top menu item on the webpage to select JPAM as the title. Other users will have to go to the JPAM page and login from there.

  2. Use the "Search in this Title" box on the right side of the JPAM home page. The image at right shows the box and the pull-down menu of search options. After conducting an initial search, users may edit the search to access more advanced search abiltities.

  3. After conducting a search, access the option to save a search. The image below shows the result of searching on June 26, 2007 for the keyword "TANF" across all content elements. Shown are the first three results for this search. Note above the results that there are links for "Save Search" and "Edit Search." Clicking on "Edit Search" will open the advanced search facility that allows users to specify several criteria at once when looking for articles. Clicking on "Save Search" will open the page for converting a search into an email alert. Please also note that at times the InterScience collection for JPAM separates the content into the two time periods 1981-1995 and 1996-present. Searches usually will produce results across both time periods but users should check to be certain. Search results may be sorted by the users by the match to the criteria and by date of publication.

  4. Search results from JPAM online
  5. Save the search and activate an email alert. The image below shows the page for saving a search under a user profile on the JPAM website. Once a search is saved, a user can run it again at later dates to look for new content that matches the criteria. By clicking "Activate Alert" the website automatically will check for new content that matches the criteria and send and email message to the user when matches are found. The option to set "Alert Preferences" allows the user to choose whether to receive the email alerts in plain text or HTML format. Users may create and save many different searches, and activate alerts for them as they prefer.
  6. Saved JPAM searches
  7. Other options. Wiley InterScience will allow registered users to sign up for alerts when new issue of JPAM appear. RSS feeds — content automatically sent to a user's web browser upon request — also may be activated to alert users when a new issue of the journal has been published online.
