2013 Fall Conference Saturday Caucus

The APPAM 2013 Fall Research Conference will introduce a new kind of session titled “Saturday Caucus.” The primary purpose for this session is to offer a dedicated time on Saturday morning for participants to gather informally to discuss new and emerging policy issues, to formulate new research questions, approaches to research, and to form possible research collaborations.

Due to time and space constraints, the conference often does not offer sufficient opportunities for participants to get together to discuss with colleagues topics of interest that could help advance research and/or practical management practices. Further, there are emerging issue areas that are not addressed during the panel sessions because, among other reasons, the issues are in their infancy, they have not been adequately framed, or they have not yet been thoroughly researched. This session would help fill this need by identifying five to seven topics on which to focus. The intent is to formalize the casual discussions that attendees have in hallways and at social events during the conference.

The session is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 8:00–9:30 a.m. The session will take place in the Promenade of the Westin Hotel. Because the Promenade includes a walkway to other meeting rooms and is an open space, there will be no AV usage available. The area is about 3,300 square feet and can accommodate five to seven round tables, with 10 chairs each. Each of the tables will accommodate one policy issue area and designated with a flag or other indicator to let attendees know what is being discussed at each table. The table discussions will occur simultaneously.
