  • Bio: Kellan Baker is the Centennial Scholar and a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Research Scholar in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where his research focuses on evaluation of insurance reforms affecting the transgender population. Previously Kellan was a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC, where he worked on health equity and data collection policy at the federal and state levels.

    Anne M. Burton is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at Cornell University. She is a health, public, and crime economist. Her research agenda focuses on the social welfare implications of risky health behaviors and crime.

    Anne is also passionate about improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in economics. In addition to organizing several events about barriers and ways to improve diversity in economics, in 2019 she cofounded Diversity in Cornell Economics with several other graduate students.

    I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Annenberg Institute at Brown University and a Senior Research Scientist at the Consortium for Policy Research in Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where I received my PhD in May, 2020.  

    I study how institutions and organized interests shape the political economy of education with a particular focus on inequality, federalism, and teacher policy, politics, and labor markets.

  • Bio: I am a Doctoral Candidate in Applied Economics at Western Michigan University. My research interests focus on the intersection of Labor Economics and LGBTQ studies. Specifically, I examine the differences in poverty, earnings, and suicide rates between sexual and gender minorities and their heterosexual and cisgender counterparts. I am a first-generation college student and a member of the LGBTQ community. Outside of formal study, I am passionate about cultural humility and sexology.

  • Bio: I am an applied microeconomist studying topics related to immigration, crime, and trade. I will earn my Ph.D. in economics from UCLA in June 2021 and am interested in research, teaching, and policy jobs in economics, public policy, and criminology. My job market paper answers the question of how immigrants and immigration policy shapes the trafficking of illegal drugs. I use rigorous econometric methods and novel data on drug seizures to answer this question.
