Household food insecurity status in the United States is ascertained by a battery of closed-ended questions. The authors, Christian A. Gregory and Travis A. Smith, posit that the monthly nature of benefit receipt from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) creates experiences of food hardship, which become salient in the context of SNAP receipt, and, in turn, exert influence on the response to food security questions.

A day-long forum sponsored by Westat and APPAM will focus researchers on sharpening and expanding the mixed method paradigm to respond to these concerns and t enable impact evaluations to make larger contributions to policy learning. Major themes include the roles of mixed methods evaluation in explaining/understanding impact findings from randomized control trials and in strengthening quasi-experimental analytic methods to ward off selection bias.

After graduation, I moved to Washington, D.C., and worked as a Science Policy Fellow for the Science and Technology Policy Institute. In supporting a project on local adaptation planning for the Obama Administration, I realized that the academic literature had only limited information as to why municipalities designed adaptation plans or even how to define a “good” adaptation plan."

Dependent Care Grants for #2019APPAM

APPAM is pleased to annouce that it will be offering registered attendees the opportunity to apply for dependent care grants. Grants, of up $400, are available for attendees of the APPAM Fall Research Conference who have child or dependent care obligations.
