Cash transfer policies have become an immensely popular social protection strategy across low and middle-income countries over the last couple of decades with recent adoption particularly high in sub-Saharan Africa. This article examines the causal effect of national cash transfer program in Malawi on the subjective well-being of household caregivers. Results reveal that the income from the program can have a profound impact on caregiver subjective well-being.

APPAM has established the 40 for 40 Fellowship to build on recent efforts to provide more support, resources, and opportunities for younger professionals. This 2018 program will provide funding for 40 outstanding young research professionals to attend the 40th Annual Fall Research Conference.

I know a lot about opioids. More than your average joe, anyway. As an idealistic college grad in the late 1990’s, I was positive that social work was the path for me. I wanted to get some direct service experience, then go into an Masters of Social Work program and go about my merry way, trying to make a difference in the world. We cover a lot of important policy research and issues at APPAM—but this one is particularly meaningful.

Using Social Media to Promote Your Research at the DC Regional Student Conference

The lunch workshop introduced graduate scholars to social media’s role in promoting their academic research, and to demonstrate networking and career development opportunities online. Panelists explored general tips on how to overcome fears of having a social media presence, as well as the skills and strategies needed to extrapolate scholarly research for networking and professional opportunities.
