Indiana University's David Konisky Receives 2022 World Citizen Prizes in Environmental Performance Award

APPAM is proud to announce the recipient of the World Citizen Prizes in Environmental Performance, Dr. David Konisky.

Konisky is being recognized for his research on environmental justice, which focuses on disparities in policy implementation and regulatory enforcement. His most recent work in this area is an article titled Environmental Injustice in Clean Water Act Enforcement: Racial and Income Disparities in Inspection Time, co - authored with Christopher Reenock and Shannon Conley, that examines disparities in Clean Water Act enforcement published in Environmental Research Letters (2021) .

Granted by David and Joy Peyton, the award recognizes research that assesses pathways to achieve measurable but as-yet unrealized gains in overall environmental performance, in particular to reduce consumption and waste. 

To be eligible for the prize the Konisky had to meet two requirements. This first is the work has to recognize research that assesses pathways to achieve measurable but as-yet unrealized gains in overall environmental performance, in particular to reduce consumption, waste, and global warming. The second is that the work had to be published research within the last two calendar years of the award calendar.

Konisky earned his PhD in political science from MIT. He also holds two master's degrees from Yale University: one in environmental management and one in international relations. At the undergraduate level, he studied history and environmental studies at Washington University in St. Louis. 

His research has been published in various journals, including the American Journal of Political ScienceClimatic Change, Environmental Research Letters, Global Environmental Change, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, the Journal of PoliticsNature Energy, Proceedings of theNational Academy of Sciences, and Public Opinion Quarterly.

The award, consisting of a plaque, a $2,500 prize, and travel funds to attend the APPAM Fall Research Conference, will be presented to Konisky at a special event at the event in November 2022.
