APPAM is pleased to host the Positions in Policy (PIP) program. The program connects job seekers who plan on attending the 2021 Fall Research Conference with hiring organizations who will be conducting interviews this spring. These organizations will reach out to job candidates to conduct interviews at the Austin conference, virtually, or throughout a separate interview process

What's so special about this program? PIP has a unique matching style. As a job seeker, your resume will be put directly in front of employers based on specialized criteria from your resume and the company. The employers post open positions on APPAM’s Career Connections page and use the job seeker contact list to narrow their candidate search. This opportunity is at the top of the list of APPAM membership benefits.

Employers:

As a complimentary service to all APPAM institutional members and $250 for non-institutional members, simply post your open positions on APPAM's Career Connection page. You can post both positions that will be interviewed for at the conference in March and those that will have a separate interview process.

In addition to complimentary interview space, APPAM will share a job seeker contact list to help narrow your candidate search.

Fee: This is a complimentary service for active APPAM institutional members and $250 for non-institutional members. If you have questions about the March 2022 Positions in Policy program, please email info@appam.org

Interview Space: APPAM will also provide complimentary, private space for PIP participants to host interviews. There will be four interview rooms at the conference that may be reserved in one-hour increments throughout the conference days. Once you reserve the space, you have access to the room for the entire time on the date of your reservation. At the conclusion of the reservation times, the room will be refreshed for use by the next organization. Each organization may reserve up to three time slots. To reserve space, please email info@appam.orgNote, you must have a position listed on the APPAM Job Board, Career Connections, to reserve interview space.

For more information, please visit our Employer FAQ page.

Job Seekers:

Tired of uploading your resume to a website and feeling like it's being lost in the void? When you participate in PIP, your contact information, areas of interest, and resume will be put directly in front of employers with open positions to give you a leg up amongst other job seekers and resumes floating around the internet. During registration, attendees will have the opportunity to express interest in this program. You'll also be able to post your resume to APPAM's Career Connections and browse jobs posted by participating organizations. Employers will reach out directly to you to coordinate the interview process.

Fee: This is a complimentary service for active APPAM members. If you’re not an APPAM member and wish to participate, please join now or contact membership@appam.org. If you’re unable to become a member at this time but want to share your resume, you can upload it to APPAM Career Connections resume bank free-of-charge. However, your contact information will not be included in the job seeker contact list.

For more information, please visit our Job Seeker FAQ Page.

If you have questions about the March 2022 Positions in Policy program, please email info@appam.org.

Volunteer Opportunities in Austin

We have heard from many of our members regarding their concern with the recent Texas legislation that effectively bans abortions at about six weeks. Many wondered why we would choose to have a conference in a state that would enact such legislation. The contract to hold the 2021 conference in Austin was signed many years ago, well before this legislation was enacted, and we could not renege on this contract for several reasons, not the least of which was the severe financial impact APPAM would have suffered.

The leadership understands these concerns and encourages our members to engage in a service project or some other volunteer effort while in Austin for the conference that would benefit organizations in the Austin area that are dedicated to keeping abortion safe and accessible for everyone. Below are some organizations you can contact directly.

The Lilith Fund
Fund Texas Choice
The Bridge Collective
Exhale
All Options
Catholics for Choice
Faith Aloud
Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project
NARAL Pro-Choice America
The National Abortion Federation
Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
The National Network of Abortion Funds

PhD Program Fair

The PhD Program Fair gives institutional members the opportunity to talk about their program with Master’s students or professionals considering a PhD program.  It’s a great opportunity for programs to meet with interested students and for students who are considering a program to ask candid questions and get a sense of the depth and breadth of programs available to them. The PhD Fair will take place in person on Monday, March 28 from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm.

To Attend: If you are a student considering a PhD program or a professional, you can register for the PhD Program Fair when registering for the Fall Conference. If you want to attend and have already registered for the conference, please email soliver@appam.org.

howard_stefanie_300"We have seen applications that have mentioned they heard about us/learned about us at the APPAM PhD Fair so thank you for the opportunity to put our program in front of your attendees." - Stephanie Howard, Assistant Dean, Admissions and Strategic Initiatives at Pardee RAND Graduate School
